The Engine

The Current Engine after rebuild in Jan. 2010

A before and after comparison. On the left is the engine in 2008 after 8 years of competition. The engine failed at Nationals 2009, with a broken crank caused by an imbalanced clutch assembly. A dowel pin fell out at some point... Everything was rebuilt over the winter of 2009/2010.

Crank failure from 2009

I went ahead and restored the carbs during this rebuild. They were roughly 25 years old and had seen a lot of wear and tear as you can see on the left. All hardware was removed and replated or replaced, the bodies were bead blasted and the air horns were polished. It made a huge improvement in looks but getting retuned was a huge excercise in frustration.

All of the hardware after replating. All of the nuts and bolts were replaced with stainless parts where possible.

The custom crank sensor holder. Has roughly 20 degrees of adjustment in two axis.

This is one of the old pistons. The current ones are similar

Torque comparsion between old motor and current motor
I doubt the values are truly comparable, but the curves are.
